Tottenham Hotspur supremo Daniel Levy has been told by Rafael van der Vaart to sign Ajax playmaker Hakim Ziyech and lure him to Spurs at the end of the season – and Spurs fans have reacted on Twitter in utter delight.

Former Spurs star van der Vaart has told Dutch outlet Voetbal Primeur that he has text Levy in a bid to convince his old side to sign 25-year-old Ziyech. The Morocco cap is regarded as one of Europe’s best playmakers, yet to make a big-money move.

Ziyech has an incredible ratio at Ajax, scoring almost one goal every three games for the Dutch champions – netting 46 in 148 outings. It is his creativity, though, that has caught the eye – letting 70 assists in that time.

Spanish newspaper AS has claimed that Ziyech did have a release clause worth a bargain £26million in the summer, but that clause has now expired. The report reckons Ajax will sell Siyech for £44million – and van der Vaart has urges Levy to sign him.

“I really hope he goes to Tottenham Hotspur and I think so,” van der Vaart was quoted as saying. “I sent a message today [Sunday] to Levy. I said, get Ziyech after this season. I am convinced he will become a sensation in London.”

Christian Eriksen looks as though he is going to leave Tottenham at the end of the season with his contract expiring in the summer. He has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid.

Tottenham fans have reacted on Twitter to van der Vaart’s comments and the majority of Spurs fans would love to see Ziyech sign on the dotted line at the north London club in the near future.
