Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly been ‘pressing for months’ to sign Roma midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo this summer but face competition from Manchester United – and Spurs fans have urged their club to win the race for the Italian.
Zaniolo, 20, has continued his excellent form for Roma this season with a number of impressive performances in numerous different positions. A five-time Italy international, Zaniolo has a contract until the summer of 2024.
Italian outlet Leggo have claimed that Tottenham and Manchester United are working hard to sign Zaniolo, who has already clocked up 60 senior appearances for Roma despite his tender age. He has scored 12 times, and created five more.
Zaniolo is renowned for his ability to play in numerous positions – though naturally a central midfielder, he has been used out wide and in the 10 role. The report claims if sporting director Gianluca Petrachi will accept a bid of £53million.

Tottenham lost Christian Eriksen to one of Roma’s rivals in the form of Inter Milan in January and lack a replacement, even though Gio Lo Celso was signed at the start of the season. Zaniolo could be the ideal replacement.
Zaniolo’s agent Claudio Vigorelli told the Daily Mail at the start of the season that Tottenham and Mauricio Pochettino had tried to sign Zaniolo last summer: “Spurs thought a lot about Nicolo before taking Lo Celso.”
Tottenham supporters reacted to the news that their club were reportedly interested in signing the Italian midfielder in the coming months, and many feel he would be a good addition to Jose Mourinho’s side.
