Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly looking to offer defender Serge Aurier a new contract to stay at the club, amid interest from German Bundesliga clubs – and Spurs fans have reacted on Twitter to the news.
Aurier, 27, has started 14 of the 16 matches Jose Mourinho has taken charge. Beforehand, Mauricio Pochettino used Juan Foyth on the right side of defence – and even Kyle Walker-Peters at times, who has since joined Southampton.
The £70k-a-week (Spotrac) defender has shone under Mourinho, laying on five goals in those 16 matches and even scoring in the Champions League during a 4-2 win over Greek side Olympiacos. His current deal expires in the summer of 2022.
French outlet Foot Mercato claim Spurs are keen to offer Aurier a new deal, given that there is interest from Germany. It is believed Aurier is also keen to sign a new deal with the north London club, and an agreement could be made soon.

Indeed, the report claims Spurs will sit down for talks with the ex-PSG defender’s representatives over the ‘coming days’ with the hope that the two parties can thrash out a deal to keep Aurier at the club beyond the summer of 2022.
It means Spurs are looking to keep Aurier in north London beyond his 30th birthday, and Spurs fans have reacted on Twitter to the reported news – but they cannot agree on whether getting Aurier to sign a new deal is the right move.
Some want Aurier to sign a new deal but for Spurs to sign a right-back, too – with Max Aarons linked. Other fans think he is a “liability”, while others are delighted that he could be about to extend his contract.
