Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly tabled an offer worth £22.75million for AS Roma defender Roger Ibanez but the Italian club has decided to reject that offer – prompting reaction from Spurs fans on Twitter.
Ibanez, 21, joined Roma in January on a loan-to-obligatory permanent deal believed to be worth just £7million (Goal). The move for the Brazil Under-23 international came after he managed two senior appearances for Atalanta.
He has since played 12 times for Roma, starting and finishing Roma’s first two Serie A outings of the season. Despite a lack of senior appearances, Ibanez is clearly regarded as a proper talent – and that has seemingly attracted Spurs.
Jose Mourinho’s side have been strongly linked with Inter Milan star Milan Skriniar but it appears that they could be priced out of a move, while it remains to be seen if Chelsea will sanction the exit of Antonio Rudiger to a rival club.
Instead, it appears Spurs have targeted Ibanez and Italian newspaper Il Messaggero have stated that Spurs saw a £22.75million offer for Ibanez rejected. It remains to be seen how much Ibanez would cost any interested parties.
Tottenham supporters have reacted on Twitter to the reported news that Ibanez has seen a bid for his services from Spurs rejected – and many are against a move, with some suggesting they would prefer Skriniar.
