Tottenham fans react as club reportedly eye Ainsley Maitland-Niles

Tottenham are reportedly set to table an offer to sign Arsenal’s £20million-rated midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles in a ‘shock’ swoop that puts north London rivalry aside – and Spurs fans have responded on Twitter.

Maitland-Niles, 22, clocked up his 100th appearance for Arsenal when the Gunners came from behind to beat Chelsea in the FA Cup final. He has enjoyed an excellent campaign in an Arsenal shirt.

However, he has not been able to hold down a regular place in the side. He initially replaced Hector Bellerin at right-back with the Spaniard injured at the beginning of the season, he always played in midfield.

He finished the campaign as a left wing-back, with Kieran Tierney being used on the left side of a back three. Though Maitland-Niles is versatile and capable of playing numerous positions, he has failed to hold down a regular place.

The Mail claims Spurs are weighing up a shock move for Maitland-Niles. Although players do not often transfer between Tottenham and Arsenal – Spurs are willing to secure a transfer given Maitland-Niles’ versatility.

It is believed Arsenal will consider offers in the region of £20million for Maitland-Niles and Spurs are preparing an offer – with many supporters very keen to see their club lure the England Under-21 ace to Tottenham.
