Ex-Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino previously turned down the chance to sign Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter are not pleased with the news.
The Evening Standard reports that Spurs offered the Argentine manager the chance to sign the highly-rated 24-year-old, but he rejected that potential deal.
Pochettino’s replacement Jose Mourinho has just overseen an extremely busy transfer window and they have landed some marquee additions to help form an eye-catching squad.
Asensio, 24, certainly would have been a coup for Pochettino during his spell in charge and the left-footer is a skilful player yet to play in any league outside of his homeland.
The Spanish attacker has made 147 appearances for La Liga giants Madrid, scoring 30 goals and supplying 20 assists in return.
He is a versatile forward that can play on either wing, but has had issues with injuries during his career so far and it may have halted him reaching his potential yet.

A selection of Spurs supporters on social media are upset by speculation that Asensio was a possibility for them, as they feel he’s a top-class player and could have been a great addition.
Despite missing out on the Spaniard, they have ended up with a potent frontline under Mourinho that Pochettino largely built and they also have Gareth Bale to add to the mix.
Here are some Spurs fans discussing the missed opportunity of Asensio:
