Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly willing to splash as much as £44million on Real Madrid playmaker Dani Ceballos – and Spurs fans are excited on Twitter.
Spanish outlet El Desmarque have claimed that Tottenham are the “main players” in the chase for the 22-year-old, who is very much a fringe player at Real Madrid under Zinedine Zidane.
The six-time Spain international played 34 times in all competitions for Real this season, mainly being used in central midfield. He scored three goals, as well as laying on two assists.
It is believed Spurs are keen on landing Ceballos to finally give their midfield some depth, after failing to replace the loss of Mousa Dembele in January after the Belgian powerhouse moved to the Chinese Super League.

The midfielder is renowned for his passing and control of the tempo, and already has huge experience given his age. Ceballos has clocked up 100 La Liga appearances, and 161 senior career appearances for Real and Betis.
Arsenal, Real Betis and Juventus are also said to be interested in Ceballos, but Spurs are winning the race for his signature. They are weighing up whether to make him a club-record transfer.
The current record is Davinson Sanchez’s £42million move, and if Spurs do spend as much as £44million it will see Ceballos break that record. Spurs fans reacted on Twitter with plenty of excitement.
