Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly an option for Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren this summer as the race to sign the Croatian giant hots up – but Spurs fans are desperate for their club to look elsewhere.
Lovren, 31, has only clocked up 14 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool this season and is set to enter the final 12 months of his £100,000-a-week contract (Spotrac). As many of five clubs are interested in landing Lovren.
Indeed, Lazio – who boast ex-Liverpool stars such as Luis Alberto and Lucas Leiva – are the frontrunners as per the report from Italian outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi. AC Milan were linked last summer, and they are expected to re-enter the race.
Lovren’s former side Lyon are also expected to be in the running for the ex-Southampton star’s signature. Tottenham are also joined by north London rivals Arsenal in the race to land the powerful centre-back.
Jan Vertonghen is expected to leave Tottenham at the end of the season as he edges closer to the final three months of his contract. The Belgian has not been offered new terms, and that is expected to see him go for nothing.
He will need replacing and Lovren is the latest central defender to be linked with a move to Spurs. Many Tottenham fans, though, are desperate to see their club avoid landing the 57-time international.
No thanks,we don’t need another weak defender.
