Tottenham are reportedly leading the way in the race to sign Bologna midfielder Mattias Svanberg ahead of the January window – and Spurs fans have responded on Twitter, with Arsenal also keen.

Svanberg, 22, joined Bologna from Malmo for £4million (i) in 2018 and has since become a regular – for club and country. In his three-and-a-half seasons in Italian football, he has already played 104 times.

That is, despite joining as a teenager. Svanberg’s form in Italy has since seen him win 15 caps for Sweden. V Sport reported back in January that Zlatan Ibrahimovic told his Milan side to sign the midfielder.

But he has remained at Bologna. A hard-working player, Svanberg is capable of playing box-to-box, defensive or attacking midfield – ideal for the 3-4-3 system Antonio Conte has adopted at Tottenham.

The i Paper say Tottenham have emerged as frontrunners to sign Svanberg, ahead of both Manchester City and Arsenal. The Gunners were linked in November, by Il Resto Del Carlino.

What are Tottenham fans saying about Bologna ace Svanberg?

Tottenham need midfield depth. In their 3-4-3 system, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp are first choice. Harry Winks is cover, but the England international could leave in the near future.

Tanguy Ndombele can play in that role but question marks surround his fitness. Gio Lo Celso and Dele Alli and probably too attacking. Svanberg is ideal, and Tottenham fans are all for his arrival.
