Tottenham fans react as club is linked with Paul Onuachu signing
Tottenham have entered the race to sign powerful Genk striker Paul Onuachu, according to the Daily Mail.
Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, West Ham and Southampton are also keen on the 6ft 7in talisman.
Tottenham are still searching the market for an alternative to Harry Kane. Nuno Espirito Santo isn’t blessed with much in reserve behind the England captain.
Onuachu has been scoring for fun in Belgium. During the current campaign, he has scored 11 goals from 15 appearances.
Last season he was a machine. He found the net 35 times from 41 games in all competitions.
His blistering form has alerted several of Europe’s top clubs towards his availability; with Tottenham the latest.
It is thought that Genk want £20 million for their main striker. That fee is unlikely to cause too many problems to many clubs who are vying for his service.
Onuachu is 27 and therefore he can’t really be considered one for the future.
He is, however, approaching his peak and if he’s going to move to a top European league it’s likely to happen soon.
Tottenham may want to get another striker sorted in January to give them the best chance of a strong finish to the season.
What have Tottenham fans said about Onuachu?
Naturally, there are a few cynics who don’t believe him to be good enough to improve the Tottenham ranks. Largely, however, the consensus is pretty good with lots of fans taking a common-sense stance.
Onuachu probably wouldn’t even be the first choice but as Fernando Llorente did a few years ago, he could provide more than useful backup for Harry Kane.
As a result, plenty would find his arrival at Tottenham as a positive and some have taken to Twitter to urge Daniel Levy to make sure Spurs don’t miss out on this one.
Here is what the positive section of the fan base had to say.
