Tottenham fans react as Christian Eriksen scores twice on international duty

Christian Eriksen’s future has been one of the biggest themes of Tottenham’s summer, if not the biggest.

But he will be staying in north London after the European transfer window shut, although his contract situation remains uncertain, with under a year left on his current £75,000-a-week (Spotrac) deal.

And Mauricio Pochettino has already hinted at the impact that has had on his side’s start to the season, as Tottenham remain miles away from anything like top form going into the first international break.

Both Pochettino and Eriksen will hope that matters will improve now that everyone knows the midfielder is staying and the early signs with his country are that he’s returning to form.

Eriksen netted twice – both from the penalty spot – as Denmark eased past Gibraltar 6-0 last night and some Tottenham fans on Twitter got very excited about the fact he could be coming back to form.

Yes, they were only spot-kicks against a lowly nation, but after the way that Eriksen has impacted on Tottenham’s start to the season, any signs that he is on-form, happy and settled will be gratefully snapped him.

They’ll want to see more of the same when Eriksen returns to domestic action because he holds the key to helping his side unlock deeper defences.
