Some Tottenham Hotspur fans have given their reactions on social media to the news that reported transfer target Bruno Fernandes has signed a new deal with Sporting CP.
The Portuguese club made the announcement on Tuesday evening while Spurs were in Champions League action against Olympiacos.
The Mirror report that the expiry date remains the same (2023), but there is now a new release clause of £85 million/€100 million – the clause in his old contract was thought to be around £65 million/€76 million.
The attacking midfielder said: “It’s a proud moment for me and a recognition of my work, it’s a sign that I’m doing things well’, he told the club website.
“I have been trying my best to do what is best for the club.”

Spurs were said to be tracking Fernandes throughout the summer, and recently it was reported that new manager Jose Mourinho had shortlisted him ahead of the January window (90min).
The development could now seriously complicate things for Spurs if they still want the player, who has scored an amazing 57 goals and tabled 44 assists for Sporting in just 126 appearances.
Tottenham fans react
Several Tottenham fans were disappointed with the news of Fernandes’ new contract.
Although it doesn’t necessarily mean a move is dead in the water, the suggestion is that he will now be even harder to prise away from Sporting:
