Ben Davies starred for Wales as Ryan Giggs’ side kept their faint hopes of qualification for Euro 2020 alive with a 1-1 draw against Croatia on Sunday night – and Tottenham fans have applauded their left-back’s display.
Davies, 26, is struggling to get a game at Tottenham this season with Danny Rose being preferred on the left side of Mauricio Pochettino’s defence. Indeed, Davies has managed just five appearances, two of which have come from the bench.
However, the former Swansea City left-back finally got some decent game time under his belt during the international break, completing 90 minutes in a 1-1 draw against Slovakia before doing the same against Croatia on Sunday night.
Indeed, Davies laid on the assist for Gareth Bale’s goal to equalise, after former Everton man Nikola Vlasic had put Croatia 1-0 up with a fine first-time finish. Davies marauded forward from defence and laid on an excellent pass for Bale, who scored.
Davies, who joined Tottenham in the summer of 2014 from Swansea for £10million (Telegraph) and has since clocked up 173 appearances for Spurs, is now set to report back to north London ahead of Saturday’s clash against Watford.
Tottenham fans reacted on Twitter to Davies’ display with many applauding their defender for his committed approach, while others are revelling in the Tottenham connection – which saw Davies find former Spurs ace Bale for the goal.
