Tottenham Hotspur winger Anthony Georgiou has signed a new contract. Georgiou has signed a contract extension until summer 2021 and subsequently joined Ipswich Town on loan, Tottenham’s official website has confirmed.
The young winger will spend the first half of this season with Ipswich. The Tractor Boys were relegated to League One last season and have signed Georgiou to bolster their options ahead of a potential promotion push.
Georgiou made his senior debut for Spurs back in 2017 in a Champions League clash with APOEL. But he has failed to kick on from there. The 22-year-old has only played the one game for Spurs and many thought he would be leaving.
Last season, Georgiou joined Levante on loan from January until the end of the season. He only featured for their reserve side, though. But he has still been rewarded with a new contract in North London, ensuring he does not become a free agent next summer.
The Cyprus international played some first-team games in pre-season but he is not close to Mauricio Pochettino’s squad. This is why fans are confused by his new contract. Here are some tweets reacting to this news.

Never seen anything from him which would suggest he's good enough, can't really play left back or left wing, but wish him the best of luck on loan
