Leicester City star and reported Tottenham Hotspur transfer target James Maddison has heaped praise on Spurs midfielder and England teammate Harry Winks – and Spurs fans have reacted on Twitter.
Winks, 23, has been called up to the England side to face Czech Republic and Bulgaria over the course of the next few days – as well as Leicester City playmaker Maddison, who is in line to win his first cap for Gareth Southgate’s side.
The Mirror claim Tottenham are set to rival Manchester United for Maddison, as a replacement for Christian Eriksen who looks increasingly likely to remain with the north London club as the Danish star’s contract expires next summer.
The Sun claim Leicester value Maddison at a whopping £80million which would make the Englishman Spurs’ club-record buy, and he was full of praise about Winks – describing him as one of the most creative players Leicester have faced this term.
“The quality he [Winks] has he was able to play through with a quick pass, two touch, receives it, turns and passes through,” Maddison told Sky Sports. “That’s the quality of the opposition we play against. You cannot switch off.”
The duo could line up together to take on Czech Republic away from home on Friday, but face competition from the likes of Chelsea duo Mason Mount and Ross Barkley, Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson and West Ham’s Declan Rice.
Tottenham fans reacted on Twitter after hearing of Maddison’s comments on Winks, ahead of the two Euro 2020 qualifying matches – and many Spurs fans have called on Winks to convince Maddison of a a move to north London.
