Kyle Walker has posted on Twitter after the Manchester City defender agreed a new five-year contract with the Premier League champions on Wednesday – and Tottenham Hotspur fans have responded.

Walker, 29, joined Manchester City from Tottenham in the summer of 2017 for an enormous £53million (Guardian) move, and has since helped Pep Guardiola’s side win the league title back to back.

The former Sheffield United and Tottenham star has played 100 times in all competitions for City, as well as remaining an England regular – clocking up 48 caps for Gareth Southgate’s side.

Walker, who is now contracted at the Etihad until the summer of 2024, posted on Twitter in reaction to the deal. It means he will stay with Manchester City until he is 34 years of age, unless another club buys him.

Walker’s decision to leave Tottenham saw many fans of the north London club criticise him for choosing the chance to win big money at City, instead of remaining loyal with Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Those fans reacted to his post on Twitter, with many teasing their former full-back for signing a contract that is likely to include a pay rise on his previous £100,000-a-week contract (Spotrac). One fan described it as “oil money”.

Other Spurs fans were shocked to see him earn a contract that keeps him at City until he is in his mid-thirties.
