Tottenham face Rennes on Thursday in what is their first trip to France in eight years.

The last time that the Lilywhites travelled to play in France was for a Europa League knockout clash with Lyon in 2013.

Spurs had won 2-1 in the home leg and trailed 1-0 on the night, facing an away goals defeat.

However, Mousa Dembele stepped up late on, rocketing a shot into the bottom corner to see Spurs through.

Ahead of their trip tomorrow the club have posted a video of that Dembele goal on Twitter.

Seeing the Dembele goal again has left the fans wishing that he’d never left, though.

The Belgian was a special player for Spurs and many fans think he could still star for them.

The midfield that featured for the club against Crystal Palace had the fans seething.

Harry Winks, Oliver Skipp and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg all starting together would have had fans dreaming of Dembele.

When the Lilywhites take to the pitch on Thursday evening the fans will be hoping Tanguy Ndombele starts.

He isn’t quite Dembele, but he’s the closest that Spurs have to their former man.

If Ndombele can step up to the plate and score a dramatic long range goal then he may draw even more comparisons to Dembele.

However, he has a long way to go before he can match the achievements of the Spurs’ fan favourite.

Dembele had an amazing spell at Spurs, featuring 249 times for the club and scoring ten goals (Transfermarkt).

His goals may have been few and far between but when he did score they were often memorable strikes like his late rescuing goal against Lyon.

The fans still seemingly haven’t moved on from the Belgian.
