Tottenham Hotspur’s Under-23 strengthened their claims to finish in second place in Premier League 2’s top tier on Friday afternoon as they beat Liverpool’s second string 4-1 – and Spurs fans have raved about Elliot Thorpe.
Spurs came into the match in fourth place in Premier League 2, but with the knowledge that a win would take them above Blackburn and Chelsea into second. However, they faced a strong side in the form of fifth-placed Liverpool.
Wayne Burnett named a strong side that included the likes of Marcel Lavinier, Dennis Cirkin, Jamie Bowden, Nile John and Alfie Devine who have been training with the senior side – and even getting first-team game time.

But it was another player that took the game by the scruff of the neck. Spurs were 2-0 up after 18 minutes, with 20-year-old Thorpe – who lined up in the 10 role – scoring two goals on 16 and 18 minutes.
Liverpool got one back through Paul Glatzel, but Spurs dominated as they played at the first-team stadium. Devine continued his stunning form in his first season at Spurs with a goal, before Dilan Markandy scored in injury time.
Thorpe has been a regular in the 23’s this season but the Wales Under-19 international has failed to score or create a single goal this season – playing more defensively. But he netted a brace, and Spurs fans have applauded him.
