Tottenham fans praise Giovani Lo Celso performance in RB Leipzig defeat

Tottenham bowed out of the Champions League at the hands of RB Leipzig on Tuesday night – but some of the club’s fans on Twitter did at least find some positivity from the display of their man Giovani Lo Celso.

After losing 1-0 at home to Leipzig in the first leg, Spurs travelled to Germany needing a big performance to overcome the deficit in the last 16 of the Champions League.

But the Bundesliga side won 3-0 on the night, with Marcel Sabitzer (two) and Emil Forsberg scoring for the hosts.

Jose Mourinho’s side have now exited both the Champions League and FA Cup in March, leaving just the Premier League to fight for this campaign.

The North London club desperately need to try find some form from somewhere if they are to claw back a seven-point gap to fourth-placed Chelsea in the league table.

A selection of Spurs supporters on social media did believe that Lo Celso was a bright spark for his side on their visit to Leipzig.

The 23-year-old looked busy in the centre of the park with plenty of endeavour to drive forward on the ball, but ultimately Leipzig were too dominant over the park and were rarely tested defensively.

He is a left-footed central midfielder that saw one effort on goal denied and he was substituted off late, presumably with one eye on the weekend’s league fixture against Manchester United from Mourinho.
