Tottenham fans praise Erik Lamela’s substitute appearance against Middlesbrough

Tottenham’s dour form continued with a 1-1 draw against Championship outfit Middlesbrough in the FA Cup third round yesterday.

Lucas Moura’s headed goal cancelled out Ashley Fletcher’s opening goal to ensure Spurs remain in the hat for the fourth round draw tonight.

But it was another display lacking invention and quality as Jose Mourinho failed to overcome former Spurs defender Jonathan Woodgate in the opposing dugout, where he is aided by Robbie Keane.

It was left to the substitutes to add any kind of drive and Erik Lamela continued his return from injury with a bright cameo off the bench.

Plenty of supporters were keen to praise the winger on Twitter for offering some energy and commitment to a performance which sorely needed it.

Spurs need to get out of this rut and Lamela might just have the spikiness Mourinho looks for in his players but much more is needed.
