Tottenham fans praise Erik Lamela for his Europa League display

Tottenham cruised into the Europa League last 16 on Wednesday evening – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter were left raving about the performance of left-footer Erik Lamela.

Spurs beat Austrian side Wolfsberger 4-0 at home, which gave them a comprehensive 8-1 aggregate scoreline.

Jose Mourinho’s side will hope that a strong European run can help fix their poor domestic form, plus winning the competition would seal qualification for next season’s Champions League.

Dele Alli was the star of the show by producing an overhead kick to open the scoring, plus he set up goals for Carlos Vinicius and Gareth Bale.

Vinicius doubled his tally with a late fourth for the North London club, who will be considered one of the favourites to win the competition.

A selection of Spurs supporters on social media felt that their attacker Lamela deserved a special mention for his contribution despite some quality performers elsewhere in the side.

The 28-year-old winger started in the Wolfsberger victory and appears to be in favour right now with manager Mourinho

He produced one excellent piece of individual skill where he dribbled from the byline in towards the penalty box, but unfortunately saw his effort on goal deflected.
