Tottenham fans on Twitter loving it as Markanday makes award shortlist
The calibre of players in Tottenham’s academy system is extremely high.
One of those who’s currently thriving in the youth ranks at Spurs is young forward Dilan Markanday.
The 20-year-old has been nominated for the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award, having scored four goals in three games in August.
Markanday, capable of playing as a centre-forward or off of the right wing, bagged a hat-trick against Leeds’ U23s to add to his strike against Chelsea in Spurs’ opening PL2 fixture (Transfermarkt).
Now he’s been shortlisted for the Player of the Month award in the competition, and that won’t surprise the supporters who have seen him.
It was even reported by Football.London that Nuno Espirito Santo had called the youngster up to train with the senior squad during the international break.

That will certainly have the fans excited.
Tottenham have got a good record of developing young players.
Harry Kane, Andros Townsend, Ryan Mason, Harry Winks and many others have successfully come through the club’s academy and made names for themselves in the senior side.
There’s no reason why Markanday can’t do the same and if he’s to continue being called up to senior training and show what he can do right under Nuno’s nose then chances will come his way.
Until then, all Markanday can do is continue impressing in youth games and getting his name out there in the way of award nominations.
It will obviously go a long way if he wins this one and you can bet the Spurs fans will be voting for their young striker.
