Tottenham fans on Twitter baffled by Nuno's Gil and Ndombele snubs
Tottenham sunk to a dreadful 3-0 defeat at Crystal Palace yesterday.
The Lilywhites were comfortably beaten as Palace struck three late goals at Selhurst Park.
However, the result may have been a different one had Nuno Espirito Santo decided to be more outgoing with his tactical decisions.
He decided against bringing on either Tanguy Ndombele or Bryan Gil, despite only making two substitutions throughout the game.
When asked why neither Ndombele or Gil got a game Nuno said:
“He (Gil) didn’t come on because I didn’t decide to put him on first. Like you say, I think you saw, our idea previously was just the right moment.”
“Then the precise moment we’re to make the sub we’re made one man less and we had to find the balance of the team again, to go for a defender, so the decision was made based on that.” (Football.London).

“They didn’t come on because I didn’t decide to bring them on.”
”It was the right moment to make a sub but then we went down to 10 men so we needed to balance the team with a defender.”

There is a point to be made that Gil was being prepared to come on just before Japhet Tanganga was sent off.
However, that doesn’t explain why the young Spaniard wasn’t introduced later in the game when Spurs were chasing for an equaliser.
The fans are also baffled as to why Ndombele didn’t feature.
The midfield three that started of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Oliver Skipp and Harry Winks was a negative one and the fans would have loved to see some more creativity.
Next week sees the Lilywhites host Chelsea and if Nuno is to get a result against the Blues then he’ll have to play a much more attacking side.
In the week there’s the chance to experiment against Rennes in Europe, a game which could provide a starting berth for both Ndombele and Gil.

Nuno seems like an astute man – he’ll know how badly he got it wrong today. I’m still hopeful with him at the helm.— James Cogle “Legacy Fan” #ENICOut (@JamesCogle) September 11, 2021

Guy have billions of excuses. He could have made those changes at halftime. And not wait till catastrophe strikes!— Papa Nketsiah (@papa_groundnut) September 11, 2021
Surely its better to go down fighting then carry on playing like that with the inevitable result , he is beginning to worry me already— Eamonn Macneill (@macspur121) September 11, 2021
Honestly at the 70th – 75th minute I thought bring on Bryan or Tanguy. Probably the same as every spurs fan. But Rodon and Davies come on and when we don’t have no attacking threat that’s when palace only have to do one thing. (Attack)— Footy_bomb (@footy_bomb) September 11, 2021
This was an absolutely awful answer.— Emex (@Thewinnermex) September 11, 2021
