Cristian Romero’s future at Tottenham remains uncertain amid links with a move away.
Romero is linked with a move to Atletico Madrid, with Diego Simeone said to be keen on signing him.
The World Cup winner is also keen on joining the La Liga heavyweights, with TBR Football reporting that Romero told his camp he wants to join Atletico Madrid.
TBR Football also recently reported that Daniel Levy will make one more effort to convince his star player to stay, but Romero is still expected to leave Tottenham.

Tottenham fans react to Diego Simeone’s comments about Cristian Romero
Simeone has now caused an uproar among Tottenham supporters after making a public comment about signing Romero.
After his side got thrashed at the hands of PSG in the Club World Cup on Sunday evening, Simeone spoke to DSports and was asked about Atletico Madrid’s interest in signing the Spurs star, to which he said (via Diario Ole): “Do I want Cuti (Cristian) Romero? Obviously! He’s a fantastic player.”
His public admission about Romero did not sit well with some Tottenham fans, with one accusing Romero of trying to engineer a move away.
Another thought it was disrespectful of Simeone to talk about players from other teams in public: “Not respectful talking about other teams players but then when has Diego Simeone ever been respectful.”
A third stated that Spurs should not be selling their best players to Atletico Madrid: “Spurs are bigger than Atletico shouldn’t be selling our best players to small fry.”
While some stated that him publicly praising him just increased Romero’s price tag, some mocked Atletico Madrid’s financial situation, suggesting they will not be able to afford him, with one fan saying: “Do you have the money to buy him? No.”
Another said: “Pay more or go away. And you shouldn’t talk about other clubs players disrespectful”
“For you my friend, £100m”, another said.
What Cristian Romero has previously said about moving to La Liga
Romero has been flirting with the idea of moving to La Liga for quite some time.
He has previously spoken about his desire to play in Spain during links with Real Madrid and he spoke about it again during a recent interview with Argentine journalist Gaston Edul.
Admitting he would love to play in the Spanish league, Romero said: “I’d love to play in La Liga.
“I like watching a lot of games, and I have a lot of teammates who play there in Spain, and we watch them. It’s one of the leagues I’d like to play in.”
Who Tottenham can replace Cristian Romero with?
Romero’s potential exit will leave a massive void in the team, given his quality on the pitch as a defender as well as a leader.
Spurs will not only need to replace him with a top defender but also with someone who is a natural leader.
Kevin Danso signed for Spurs on a permanent deal this summer after impressing during his loan spell, and Spurs think they have a replacement for Romero in Danso.
Not only has he impressed the club with his defensive skills, Danso has also been hailed for his leadership.
However, Spurs will need further defensive reinforcements if Romero leaves given how injury-prone Micky van de Ven is.
Several names have been linked with a move to North London. TBR Football has reported that Tottenham have joined the race to sign Nathan Collins.
Spurs made a £70m bid for Marc Guehi in January, who remains another potential target for the club this summer.
