Tottenham defender Matt Doherty has admitted it’s not been a brilliant season individually from him so far – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter love the honesty in his comments.
Spurs signed him for £15million (Standard) last summer from Premier League rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers, but it’s been a difficult first year in North London.
Doherty, 29, has been in and out of the starting XI at Spurs, with manager Jose Mourinho seeming to prefer full-back rival Serge Aurier in the most important games.
The Irish right-back has played 26 matches across all competitions this season, but only 14 have come in the league.
One potential reason behind him struggles may be the fact that he’s gone from playing wing-back with Wolves to full-back at Spurs.
Doherty has given a critical self assessment of his form so far in a Spurs shirt, insisting he’s working hard to improve.
“I love being here. I have really enjoyed my time but, personally, it’s not been a great season for me so far,” Doherty said, as quoted by Football London.
“There are things I need to improve on and things I need to adapt to. It’s been an indifferent start for me personally but, there is a lot more to come.”

A selection of Spurs supporters on social media are grateful to hear Doherty’s “honest” comments about his form and a large chunk still have faith he can turn things around.
If he can continue to work hard on the training ground and improve as a conventional full-back, Mourinho will surely give him the chance to impress.
He’s had the confidence of back-to-back league starts and has looked much improved, so perhaps he’s reached a significant turning point.
