Kieran Trippier’s outstanding World Cup feels like a distant memory after the season he has had with Tottenham and his disappointing form continued last night.
Spurs went down 1-0 in the first leg of their Champions League semi final against Ajax and it was Trippier who played Donny van de Beek onside to net the only goal of the game.
But Trippier also had plenty of opportunities to whip in his trademark delivery but couldn’t produce the goods to get his side back into the match.
There’s no doubting Trippier’s effort and commitment but his quality and confidence just aren’t there at the moment – providing Mauricio Pochettino with a dilemma ahead of the second leg.

Does he stick with the England international or throw in a youngster such as Kyle Walker-Peters or Juan Foyth for such a massive occasion?
Judging from the reaction of the fans on Twitter, they want Trippier dropped for the second leg after savaging his performance last night…
