Tottenham fans impressed by Ndombele before suffering shock West Ham collapse

Tottenham Hotspur fans lavished praise on Tanguy Ndombele after the Frenchman produced a fantastic performance against West Ham United.

That was just before Spurs remarkably threw away a three-goal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, having flown out of the traps through Heung-min Son and Harry Kane (2).

It was a terrible showing by the Hammers in the first half, with all three of Tottenham’s goals coming in the first 16 minutes.

It left the visitors a mountain to climb, but just like Mourinho’s first game in charge, there was to be a second-half challenge – only this time, West Ham stole a point.

Spurs conceded to Fabian Balbuena on 82 minutes, before Davinson Sanchez then scored an own goal. Manuel Lanzini then scored an injury-time thunderbolt for the visitors to spark scenes of jubilation for the West Ham bench.

Before it all unravelled, there were plenty of fine individual performances for Tottenham.

There was also a second Tottenham debut for Gareth Bale, who was quiet but did have one golden chance to score, which ultimately proved costly.

One man who did fantastically well was Ndombele, who was absolutely everywhere for Spurs.

The star didn’t provide any goals or assists, but was tireless alongside Moussa Sissoko in central midfield and showed extremely good technical quality as well as an impressive steely side, before being replaced by Harry Winks on 72 minutes before the West Ham comeback.

So good was he defensively that it was perhaps no coincidence that the Hammers’ late surge came when he was no longer on the pitch.

His Spurs career has been up and down, but it seems the star is beginning to blossom now and Mourinho appears to be more trusting of the 23-year-old.

His contributions were lapped up by fans on Twitter:
