Tottenham Hotspur’s Under-18 side progressed into the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup with a 3-0 win over AFC Wimbledon after extra-time – and Spurs fans have applauded the performance of youngster Alfie Devine.
Spurs were expected to win the fourth-round clash and named a strong side to take on Wimbledon – including the likes of Nile John, Dane Scarlett and Devine. All three have made their first-team debuts this season.
A frustrating initial 90 minutes saw Wimbledon frustrate the young Spurs side, who are coached by ex-Portsmouth and West Ham midfielder Matty Taylor. But eventually, the goals flooded in during the additional 30 minutes.

Jamie Donley won the plaudits, coming on during normal time and scoring a brace in extra-time – while another substitute, in Romaine Mundle, also got his name on the score sheet as Spurs progressed into the fifth round.
Devine lasted 98 minutes, coming off just moments before Spurs opened the scoring but that was not a slight on his excellent performance in midfield. He helped dictate the tempo of play and created many opportunities.
Tottenham fans who chose to watch the match on Wednesday night, instead of England’s 2-1 win over Poland, were full of praise for Devine on Twitter. Spurs will face West Brom, who beat Cardiff, in the fifth round.
