Chelsea were victorious on Wednesday as they saw off Villarreal on penalties in the UEFA Super Cup. Unai Emery’s side put up a real fight against Chelsea, drawing 1-1 after 120 minutes. Foyth played his first competitive game since permanently leaving Tottenham – and fans reacted.

Of course, the 23-year-old spent the last season on loan at Villarreal. Jose Mourinho allowed Foyth to go on loan to Villarreal last summer – clocking up 32 appearances for the La Liga side. That was the same amount of games he had clocked up in his Tottenham career. His 33rd came on Wednesday.

What did Tottenham fans think of Foyth and his display v Chelsea?

The Sun claim Villarreal and Emery have paid Tottenham £13million (Sun) to sign the Argentina international. Used at right-back on Wednesday night, Foyth came up against Marcos Alonso and Kai Havertz – who opened the scoring. But he was excellent despite centre-back being his natural position.

Foyth lasted the entire 120 minutes and even scored a penalty in the shootout. But Thomas Tuchel’s brave decision to replace Edouard Mendy for Kepa Arrizabalaga for the shootout paid off – as Chelsea won 7-6. Tottenham fans applauded Foyth for his display against the Blues.
