Tottenham fans hope Japhet Tanganga will face Newcastle after missing U23 match

Young defender Japhet Tanganga was not involved in Tottenham Under 23s’ 2-1 defeat at the hands of Derby County yesterday.

Tanganga was involved in Spurs’ pre-season preparations and some supporters feel that his absence from the side suggests he’s going to be involved with the first team when they host Newcastle on Sunday.

Jan Vertonghen’s fitness has been an issue, and one supporter feels that Tanganga may well be coming into the squad for the Belgian.

Further, there is a genuine sense of excitement that Tanganga could be set to get his first proper chance in the first team.

Mauricio Pochettino is as good as any manager in the Premier League when it comes to giving opportunities to young players and many supporters seem keen for Tanganga to be the next one blooded.

Tottenham need a long-term central defensive solution, with uncertainty over how long Vertonghen’s Belgian international team-mate Toby Alderweireld will remain at the club too.

The supporters may be off but they think they’ve spotted some early team news and hope that another promising young player will take the next step in his development.
