Tottenham fans hail Winks’ late show to eventually see off dogged Fulham

The injuries are beginning to mount up for Tottenham and yesterday they ran into a Fulham side absolutely fighting for their lives at the bottom of the table.

In the first half at Craven Cottage, Claudio Ranieri’s side put in their best performance of the season so far and deserved more than a Fernando Llorente own goal to show for their efforts at the interval.

But Spurs responded after the break, despite Mauricio Pochettino having precious few options on the bench with which to change the game and dominated the second half.

When Dele Alli levelled the scores soon after the restart with a trademark back post header, it looked as if Spurs would go on and sweep aside their hosts, who have defended shambolically for much of the season.

But the Cottagers showed resolve that has been missing for much of the season and with the misfiring Llorente up front, Tottenham struggled to find the cutting edge to break them down.

In the final minute of stoppage time, Harry Winks found himself with a free header around six yards out and buried it to send the away end into raptures and salvage a result that keeps Tottenham chugging along.

In the absence of his namesake Kane, Winks took on a small amount of the goalscoring burden and the Spurs fans absolutely loved seeing one of their own step up to clinch a win in the most dramatic of circumstances…
