Tottenham fans hail Son after he nets first Champions League goal in new stadium

Tottenham beat Manchester City 1-0 last night to gain a slight advantage to take into the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie.

Sergio Aguero missed a first-half chance from the penalty spot to land City a vital away goal and the match was fairly cagey thereafter.

And when Harry Kane limped off within ten minutes of the second period kicking off, Spurs might have been forgiven for accepting a 0-0 draw to take to the Etihad Stadium next Wednesday.

But just as he has done so often this season, Son Hueng-min stepped up with another reserve of energy when others around him are flagging, taking on the goalscoring mantle from Kane and smashing Spurs into the lead.

The man signed for a fee the Guardian reported in 2015 was £22m should be in the discussion for PFA Player of the Year for the way he has dragged Spurs through at times this season.

But this was arguably his most important goal yet – and it was also the first Champions League goal in the brand new stadium, following on from netting the first league strike in the arena against Crystal Palace last week.

He keeps on impressing the Spurs fans and we’ve put together the best of the reaction to last night’s win…
