Tottenham fans hail Oliver Skipp for display against Manchester United

Oliver Skipp played in the second-half during the pre-season defeat to Manchester United on Thursday – and some Tottenham fans on Twitter raved about their midfielder for his performance.

Spurs suffered a narrow 2-1 loss in the International Champions Cup, but their players got more minutes under their belt.

Anthony Martial opened the scoring from a tight angle, but Mauricio Pochettino’s side drew level in the second period with a defected shot from Lucas Moura.

Manchester United picked up the win thanks to 18-year-old Angel Gomes calmly finishing from close-range.

The North London club made six changes at half-time in the friendly match and Skipp was introduced to the action.

Skipp is a central midfielder to come out of the academy and he slotted smoothly into the Harry Winks role in front of the back four, where he saw plenty of the ball and helped break up play.

The 18-year-old showed some real composure in possession and demonstrated his game awareness with some thoughtful forward passes.

He didn’t look overawed against his opponents in the second-half and should feel confident of building on his 12 first-team appearances for Spurs.

A selection of Spurs supporters on social media picked out Skipp for his positive display and believe he’s got a bright future.

The English enforcer has impressed already in pre-season against Juventus and is beginning to build up some momentum.
