Gareth Bale’s season is now in full swing after some great recent performances – and some Tottenham fans on Twitter were wowed by one piece of skill he produced last night.
Spurs beat Dinamo Zagreb 2-0 on Thursday night in the first leg of a Europa League last-16 tie.
It’s a competition that is important to Jose Mourinho’s side to try qualify for next season’s Champions League, although there is also that route still possible through the Premier League.
A selection of Spurs supporters on social media were left waxing lyrical about a piece of individual brilliance from Bale.
The Welsh attacker, who had entered the acton just seconds beforehand, produced an excellent cross with the outside of his left foot to pick out Steven Bergwijn at the far post.
Bergwijn’s volley at goal was eventually saved by the goalkeeper, denying what would have been a spectacular assist.
Bale was introduced to the action midway through the second half as a substitute, which highlights he’s now being rested at times ahead of the Premier League.
The 31-year-old will surely start this weekend’s North London league Derby against Arsenal, and his cross against Zagreb shows the kind of confidence he’s now playing with.
He is a skilful wide player now recapturing some top form to break into the main XI, scoring 10 goals in just 23 games across all competitions this season.
Fan favourite Bale received massive credit on Twitter are the Zagreb match:
