Mike Dean has been appointed as the referee for Tottenham Hotspur’s clash against Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon – and Spurs fans are unhappy following last season’s officiating furing the defeat to Burnley.
Mauricio Pochettino was caught after last February’s 2-1 defeat to Burnley angrily confronting referee Dean, and was forced to apologise just three days later – after accepting The FA’s charge of improper conduct.
Dean had angered Pochettino and Tottenham during the match for a number of decision that went against the north Londoners. Now, Dean takes charge of his first Spurs clash since that outing.
Tottenham have started well in the Premier League, coming from behind to beat a brave Aston Villa thanks to goals from new signing Tanguy Ndombele and a brace from Harry Kane – who broke his August hoodoo.
An excellent 2-2 draw against Manchester City followed at The Etihad, proving that Spurs have what it takes to match their Premier League title rivals. Now, they will be looking to make it seven points from nine against Newcastle.
Tottenham fans reacted in despair on Twitter after learning that Dean had been appointed as the man in the middle, with one fan Tweeting “The Universe, it truly hates us”.
The match Sonny returns?? ? The universe, it truly hates us.
