Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld is being linked with a summer move to Manchester United – and the club’s supporters are raging at the possibility of him leaving for Old Trafford.
According to the Mirror, Spurs are “resigned” to losing the 30-year-old to Premier League rivals Manchester United.
The report details that in the summer the Belgian centre-back will have a release clause of just £26million come into play, as his deal enters its final year.
Alderweireld has been a key player for Spurs since he joined in 2015 and been one of the best performers of the Mauricio Pochettino era.
The rock solid defender is still a regular starter this term, as the team fight for a top four finish in the Premier League and look forward to the Champions League quarter-finals.
He would definitely improved the Manchester United XI if he joined and that could have a negative impact directly on Spurs next season.
A selection of Spurs fans are baffled that they could lose one of their star man to an English rival.
They are hopeful the club can somehow manage to convince him to extend his stay with them, but as it stands this could end up being his last season with them.
Here are some of the Spurs fans that are mad with the “small club mentality” of selling a star to a rival:
shocking – should do everything they can to keep him and def not sell to a rival

Such a small club mentality. Selling to direct rivals.

We’re gonna miss having him just you wait and see. Probably our most undervalued player.

Be sad if left but been amazing for the club. Hopefully some last minute agreement for new contract but if wants to leave and theres a contract clause then nothing we can do.
