Jesse Lingard scored a beautiful solo goal for West Ham United on Monday night as the Hammers returned to the top four of the Premier League table, as he continues to shine on loan from Manchester United – and Tottenham fans discussed him.
Having failed to make a single Premier League appearance for Manchester United during the first half of the season, Lingard joined David Moyes and West Ham on loan in January. Many turned their nose up at the signing, questioning the decision.
But the 28-year-old has proved all the doubters wrong. He has even earned his place in the England side once again, having produced nine goal involvements in eight West Ham appearances – strengthening their top-four ambitions.
Indeed, Lingard scored an excellent solo goal during Monday’s 3-2 win over Wolves – picking up the ball deep inside his own half and gliding into the Wolves half before lifting the ball over Rui Patricio, after Michail Antonio dragged his marker away.

It was his sixth goal since joining the Hammers, while also laying on three assists. That is, despite playing on either flank or even in the 10 role. It could have been very different, though, with Spurs being linked with Lingard – and a reunion with Mourinho.
TalkSPORT claimed in January that Spurs were battling West Ham for Lingard during January, but ultimately, the chance to join Moyes and West Ham where he would gain regular game time saw the Hammers beat Spurs to his signature.
But with the Hammers sitting in fourth and Lingard arguably one of the most in-f0rm English players in the Premier League right now, Tottenham would surely benefit massively from a player of his form in front of goal.
Certainly, on Sunday, Tottenham failed to capitalise on coming from behind to lead Newcastle 2-1 – and ultimately, Tottenham eventually allowed The Toon to equalise. They lacked an attacking midfielder that could supply Harry Kane to score.

Tanguy Ndombele was good, but was used deeper in midfield. Gio Lo Celso has come in for criticism since the draw, with the Argentina international simply not producing ths standard of performance required to take Tottenham into Europe.
Spurs really could have done with Lingard. The player’s pace, drive and athleticism would have surely seen Spurs pick up all three points – especially given Lingard’s work rate is matching his form, running 12.7km on Monday night against Wolves.
Lingard’s future remains up in the air. The chances of him remaining at Old Trafford are unlikely, given he has a year left on his United contract – and if his parent club are to get a fee for his services, then they need to sell him in the coming months.
So, a move to West Ham could be on the cards but his form might tempt other suitors. Tottenham might be one of those, but for now, Spurs fans are frustrated that Mourinho’s side did not beat the Hammers to his signature in the January window.
