Chelsea sprung a somewhat surprising FA Cup win over Liverpool on Tuesday night as teenage midfielder Billy Gilmour stole the headlines – but Tottenham supporters have reacted in a frustrated manner on Twitter, following Olivier Giroud’s display.
Gilmour, 18, was a surprise inclusion in Frank Lampard’s starting eleven but the ex-Rangers ace looked a class above – earning the man of the match award as Chelsea beat Jurgen Klopp’s side 2-0, succumbing the Reds to two defeats in a row.
Willian opened the scoring as his fierce shot from the edge of the area was too much to handle for Liverpool stopper Adrian. The ball crashed against the Spaniard’s body, trickling past him into the net. Ross Barkley doubled the lead.
The ex-Everton star went on a mazy run, drifting past Fabinho before lashing home an effort that gave Adrian no chance – and sent the Stamford Bridge crowd into meltdown. It sees Chelsea progress into the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.
Giroud, 33, has clocked up five appearances for Chelsea since being shunted out of the side prior to the January window. The Frenchman has impressed, scoring in the win over Tottenham – just weeks after almost moving to north London.
The Sun claimed on deadline day that Chelsea were willing to sell £18million signing (BBC) Giroud to Tottenham, but only if they signed Dries Mertens – a move that did not materialise. Now, Tottenham fans are frustrated after watching Giroud impress against Liverpool.
Any Spurs fans still want to argue that Giroud would have been a bad signing? #THFC

Some of our fans didn't want us to sign Giroud in January lol yikes

Giroud would've been perfect for us. The way he holds up the ball and wins it in the air 😔

I’d have Giroud at Spurs.

Giroud is who we should have signed in January. Would have been perfect for our system and I reckon we would have got fourth spot with him.
