Tottenham fans frustrated as £13m star shines against Real Madrid over weekend
Juan Foyth helped Villarreal secure a clean sheet and a point away at Real Madrid on Saturday – and Tottenham fans have reacted in frustrated mood.
Foyth, 23, is shining for the La Liga side. Joining the club initially on loan in the 2020 from Spurs, he helped Villarreal reach the Europa League final.
Clocking up 32 outings during 2020-21, he matched the same amount of senior appearances he made for Spurs during his entire time in London.
In the summer, the deal was made permanent for £13million (Sun). He has continued as a regular under Unai Emery, shining on Saturday afternoon.
Foyth, a 13-time Argentina international, lined-up at right-back against Real Madrid on Saturday – and he helped Villarreal draw 0-0 with Madrid, away.
The ex-Spurs man lasted 86 minutes. He came up against an exciting Madrid front three of Karim Benzema, Rodrygo and Vinicius Jr.
What are Tottenham fans saying, as Foyth shines for Villarreal?
But Villarreal and Foyth prevented Carlo Ancelotti’s side from scoring for the first time this season. He was brilliant, for the Spanish side.
WhoScored gave him the best rating of the match, a 7.82. He made more tackles than anyone on the pitch, with a toal of four.
Of course, his performance came just before Spurs suffered a hammering at The Emirates – a 3-1 loss to Arsenal in the 21-22’s first North London derby.
Tottenham fans reacted on Twitter as Foyth starred on Saturday evening and many are frustrated by the club’s decision to let him go.
