Alan Pardew believes Mauricio Pochettino should have made an example out of Christian Eriksen’s poor performance against Everton by hauling him off earlier in the match – and Spurs fans have found themselves agreeing with Pardew.
Eriksen, 27, is expected to leave the north London club sooner rather than later as his contract expires at the end of the season. It remains to be seen if he will leave in January for a fee, or for nothing next summer.
The Danish playmaker has struggled to perform this season, and against Everton he was seemingly uninterested. The former Ajax man gave the ball way repeatedly – especially in the first half – and refused to close down as much as Lucas Moura.
Without making any kind of impact, Eriksen was finally withdrawn deep into the 12 minutes of injury time and replaced by Ryan Sessegnon in what was the summer signing’s debut for Tottenham since joining for Fulham on deadline day.
Pardew told BeIN Sports: “Knowing that his contracts ends at the end of the season, sometimes you do need to make a statement as a manager. Today should have been a statement to say ‘come off, I’m not accepting that [poor performance]’.”
Eriksen has now started both the matches against Liverpool and Everton, despite many supporters of the belief that Eriksen should be nowhere near the starting eleven – or indeed the matchday squad at Spurs.
Tottenham fans reacted on Twitter to Pardew’s comments, and many are in shock that they are in complete agreement with the out-of-work, former West Ham United manager.
Scary when even Alan Pardew can see what Poch seems blind to.

You know your club is in trouble when you're agreeing with something Alan Pardew has said.

How can everyone see this but poch? What does he even deliver for us anymore?

Totally agree why not

We’ve been saying. Bin him until he leaves or signs, but there is no way he should be allowed to wear the first team shirt again

Poch should have made a statement, a long time ago, by not playing him! Eriksen doesn't care about the club!

It’s a sign of how far Poch has regressed that he could do with listening to Alan effing Pardew… but he does.
I think we need to accept now that Eriksen will play every minute of this season.

When Pards talks more sense than Poch it’s time for a change
