Eric Dier lasted 81 miutes of Tottenham Hotspur’s 3-1 away defeat to Bayern Munich on Wednesday night as he captained a weakened Spurs side at the Allianz Arena – and Spurs fans have become fed up with their number 15.
The ex-Sporting Lisbon star is struggling to reach the quality that saw him shine at Euro 2016, and become a reported target for the likes of Manchester United and Bayern Munich. It was his 221st outing for Spurs since joining in 2014 for £4m (BBC).
Dier, 25, captained the England side on Wednesday night in what was a dead rubber – with both Bayern and Spurs already qualifying for the last 16 in first and second respectively. It was a walk in the park for Bayern during the second half.
They took the lead early on as Kingsley Coman passed the ball into the net, with Kyle Walker-Peters nowhere to be seen. Spurs did hit back through Ryan Sessegnon, who netted with his first goal for Spurs on his first start for the club.
But Bayern dominated for the majority of the match and Thomas Muller scored from close range after pinball in the penalty area that also saw Alphonso Davies hit the post from close range. Bayern looked as though they would win from that point on.
Philippe Coutinho scored the only goal of the second half, curling in an excellent effort leaving Paulo Gazzaniga with no chance. Dier struggled to cope with the quality of Coutinho and Thiago, who dictated the match from start to finish.
Tottenham fans reacted to Dier’s performance on Twitter after the full-time whistle was blown, and many Spurs supporters believe it is time their club got rid of Dier – with many fed up of seeing him struggle in a Spurs shirt.

I will say two things though:
Moussa Sissoko should have been captain, not Eric Dier.
I've seen Sunday league players, play better than Eric Dier.

Eric Dier just looks well off the pace. Looks overweight and ponderous. Don't know what happened but he don't even look championship lvl to me. Must buy a quality in prime midfielder to link the def to the attack.

Eric Dier isn’t the answer to any question, except “Which English Midfieder isn’t good enough for Spurs?”
Utterly embarrassing. Can’t pass. Can’t tackle. Awful.
