Tottenham fans drool over Italy star as Spain crash out in Euro 2020 semi-final
Italy booked their place in the final of Euro 2020 with a penalty-shootout win over Spain on Tuesday night – as Lorenzo Insigne sparkled. The Napoli attacker has been excellent throughout the tournament, despite his club future being in doubt. Tottenham fans raved about Insigne, and his display.
Insigne, 30, has been in sensational form over the past 12 months. Under Gennaro Gattuso – a manager that almost took over at Spurs – he scored 19 goals and created 11 more during 2020-21. He has taken that form with him into Euro 2020, scoring two goals so far this tournament.
He was brilliant again, as Italy looked to sucker punch Spain on the counter attack. They did just that to score the opening goal, as Federico Chiesa curled one into the far corner. Alvaro Morata went from hero to zero – equalising, but then missing a penalty in the shootout as Spain crashed out.
What are Tottenham fans saying about Insigne, after Tuesday night?
Insigne is in the final year of his contract at Napoli. A club legend, he is three appearances shy of clocking up a whopping 400 games. Corriere Dello Sport say Tottenham and Barcelona are in talks to land him. Even the president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, has said a Napoli exit is possible.
Tottenham could do with a winger, as Gareth Bale looks set to return to Real Madrid for the 2021-22 campaign. Erik Lamela might also leave as he finds himself in a similar position to Insigne. Tottenham fans reacted to Insigne and his display for Italy, by urging the club to sign the attacker.
