Tottenham fans discuss Toby Alderweireld display in win over Leicester

Tottenham Hotspur earned an excellent 3-0 win over Leicester City on Sunday evening to climb into sixth place in the Premier League – and Spurs fans have lauded Toby Alderweireld for his rock-solid display in defence.

Spurs played host to Brendan Rodgers’ side in what was a crucial game in their pursuit of Europa League football. A win would see Spurs climb above Wolves by two points – with Nuno Espirito Santo’s side next in action on Monday night.

They were handed some luck as Son Heung-min’s opener was deflected into the back of the net by James Justin, completely wrong-footing goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel. But Harry Kane stole the show, as he netted twice.

Kane scored his fifth and sixth goals since the restart, his first coming after being played in by Lucas Moura – and calmly sweeping the ball home with his left foot. His second was even better.

An overhit pass saw the chance for Kane to shoot seemingly over, but the England skipper cut inside before curling an exquisite effort past Schmeichel – all before the half-time whistle. Meanwhile, Alderweireld was excellent.

The 31-year-old Belgian – who has missed just four Premier League matches out of the 25 league outings under Jose Mourinho – kept Jamie Vardy under control. It was the £11.5million (Mail) signing’s 200th Spurs outing.

Tottenham supporters applauded the former Ajax ace for his sturdy display at centre-back on Twitter, as the north Londoners took a giant leap towards European qualification with the win.
