Juan Foyth enjoyed a spectacular debut for loan side Villarreal after joining the Spanish side towards the end of the summer window, scoring and creating another from centre-back on Thursday night – and Spurs fans have responded on Twitter.
Argentina international Foyth, 22, suffered following the change in manager last November – which saw Jose Mourinho replace Mauricio Pochettino. Following that switch, Foyth managed just one Premier League start.
It saw him clock up just seven appearances throughout the 2019-20 season for Spurs – and fall down the pecking order. The signing of Joe Rodon from Swansea was always going to go through, forcing Foyth to consider an exit.
He chose to join Villarreal and he made his debut on Thursday night as the La Liga side hosted Turkish outfit Sivasspor. In a hugely exciting game, Foyth lasted the entire 90 minutes as Villarreal earned a 5-3 win.
The former Estudiantes defender headed in from a corner with a well-placed finish, but also his ball-playing style saw him create a goal for Paco Alcacer – splitting the defence to find the Spanish striker who finished with aplomb.
It remains to be seen if Foyth – an £8million (Mail) signing – will add to his 32 senior Spurs appearances but Tottenham fans responded to his debut for Villarreal and many applauded his efforts.
