Tottenham Hotspur suffered yet another blip in their race to finish in the top four of the Premier League after failing to hold on to a point against Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon – but Spurs fans have applauded goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.
A win would have taken Tottenham back into the Champions League places, and it looked as if they were going to secure a 2-1 victory as they entered the last 10 minutes. Newcastle took the lead through a rare goal from Joelinton.
The Brazilian was a menace to Tottenham’s young defence all afternoon – but Harry Kane scored a quickfire double to make it 2-1. Tapping home after a lucky deflection, he then fired home a brilliant effort after a neat Tanguy Ndombele pass.
But Spurs failed to add another goal and the pressure increased towards the end. For the second time this season, Newcastle pegged Tottenham back to secure a point – as Arsenal loanee Joe Willock scored with 86 minutes on the clock.
The draw sees Tottenham sit in fifth, two points behind Chelsea – but West Ham and Everton could both overtake Tottenham on Monday, with both in action. Spurs fans raved about £100k-a-week (Spotrac) Lloris, though, who made a number of saves.
