Tottenham fans discuss Antonio Conte's latest comments regarding his managerial future

Talks between Tottenham and Antonio Conte broke down over a numerous stumbling blocks. The Italian was expected to arrive at Spurs as Daniel Levy continues the search for a new gaffer. But instead, he decided against a move to Spurs – and Tottenham fans have now reacted to his comments.

Conte, 51, left Inter Milan last month having held aloft the Scudetto. He ended the reign of dominance from Juventus, who had won the previous nine Serie A titles – some of which were won by Conte. He has also been linked with Real Madrid, as has Mauricio Pochettino.

Alasdair Gold even claimed at one point that Levy was ‘expecting’ to unveil Conte. But it fell through and Spurs are now reportedly closing in on ex-Roma gaffer Paulo Fonseca – who has been replaced by Jose Mourinho. Conte has spoken about his future, following on from talks with Spurs.

“I like the challenges and I’ve accepted many of them,” Conte told Gazzetta Dello Sport, as per the Evening Standard. “Even the top clubs I coached were never the favourites when I arrived. However, if there’s something that doesn’t convince me I prefer not to accept regardless of the money.”

What are Tottenham fans saying about Conte’s comments?

The Evening Standard report claims that Tottenham claim they backed away from a move – while Conte claims he did. But it might be the case of a mutual breakdown. Tottenham refusing to budge and meet Conte’s ceiling-high demands. Instead, a move might have proved an expensive waste.

Tottenham fans, though, are not as optimistic as that view. Indeed, many feel Conte’s comments are “embarrassing” for the North London club. They believe that his claim simply means that Conte feels the challenge at Tottenham is too tough, and detrimental to the reputation he boasts.
