Ryan Sessegnon joined German Bundesliga side Hoffenheim on deadline day earlier this month in a loan move from Tottenham Hotspur – and Spurs fans have applauded the England Under-21 star for his debut on Saturday.
Sessegnon, 20, left Spurs in the summer to follow in the footsteps of Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham – in becoming another English talent that could take advantage of Germany’s top tier to shine, and return to Spurs a better option.
Following his £25million move to Spurs last summer from Fulham, Sessegnon managed just 12 appearances in all competitions – with injury and a change in manager hardly helping his cause. It seemingly convinced him to leave on loan.
Sessegnon, who enjoyed a good international break with England’s Under-21 side, came off the bench to feature against Bellingham and Sancho on Saturday for the last 10 minutes – but it was Marco Reus’ goal that proved the difference in a 1-0 loss.
Sessegnon showed pace and a bit of quality in the final third when he was introduced, but had little time to make an impact against a sturdy Dortmund side. Sessegnon could make his first start on Thursday against Red Star Belgrade.
Tottenham fans reacted to his display for Hoffenheim on Saturday afternoon and some were impressed, while others were shocked that Sessegnon did not start and urged the German club to bring him into the starting line-up next time.
