Tottenham fans desperate for Davinson Sanchez to be dropped against Man City

Tottenham Hotspur face an enormous test in just their second Premier League outing of the season on Saturday evening as they take on champions Manchester City – and Spurs fans want a change in the defence.

Against Aston Villa, Toby Alderweireld started alongside 23-year-old Davinson Sanchez with Juan Foyth injured. Jan Vertonghen was left out of the side, with reports coming out about his absence since the game.

The Daily Mail claimed in the week that the 32-year-old was ‘fuming’ after his exclusion from the side, and that many of the Spurs players were surprised he even stayed to watch the game at the club’s new stadium.

Spurs went on to win 3-1, but they conceded early on as Colombia international Sanchez failed to deal with the strength of Aston Villa’s new striker Wesley Moraes. Tanguy Ndombele and a brace from Harry Kane saved the day.

Spurs fans are big admirers of Vertonghen, who is now in his eighth season at the club. In that time, he has clocked up an enormous 285 appearances in all competitions – but he has entered the final 12 months of his contract.

Tottenham fans have urged Mauricio Pochettino to bring Vertonghen back into the starting eleven against Manchester City on Saturday, and partner fellow countryman Alderweireld at the back.
