Tottenham fans criticise Serge Aurier’s performance in home defeat against Chelsea

The right back has done well under Jose Mourinho but he was exposed yesterday.

Tottenham’s clash with Chelsea yesterday saw Jose Mourinho take on his former player Frank Lampard and it was the apprentice who dominated his former master.

Lampard got the better of Mourinho by producing a clever, high-energy gameplan which exploited the hosts from start to finish, meaning the former England midfielder has beaten his old Chelsea boss both times he has faced him in the dugout already.

Spurs could not get to grips with their visitors at all, with Willian running riot and £70,000-a-week (Spotrac) right back Serge Aurier exposed throughout.

Aurier has improved under Mourinho but his shortcomings were once again all too evident yesterday and that’s one position in which Spurs need to urgently improve.

Plenty of fans on Twitter were queuing up to slate Aurier for a performance which lacked concentration, discipline and quality.

They have seen this time and time again from the Ivorian and the improvement Mourinho has generated in his game has largely been about freeing him from defensive responsibility.

But he came up so short against Marcus Rashford earlier this month and was exposed once more as Mourinho, once billed as the ultimate big game manager, lost his second Spurs match from two against a top six rival already.
