Eric Dier has explained he now feels like he’s recapturing his best form – but some Tottenham fans on Twitter are reluctant to believe his comments.
Dier, who earns £92,000-a-week (Salary Sport), is one of the Spurs players within the squad that is most discussed by the club’s fanbase.
The 27-year-old can frustrate supporters due to the fact that on his day he’s a top defender, but there has always been an underlying weakness to his game where he’s prone to a lapse in concentration to make a mistake.
Dier has given an honest self assessment regarding his form, acknowledging that it dropped off midway through this campaign. However, the England international now believes he’s back to his early-season form, where he was an ever-present in the XI looking solid in the heart of defence.
“I think fans have seen what I can do in glimpses, especially at the beginning of the season. I think I had a very good first six months and it dropped a little bit for a few games, but I feel like I’ve been back to a good place, for a couple of months now” Dier told Football London.
Despite Dier’s positive comments, a selection of Spurs supporters on social media are not willing to get carried away by Dier’s mini revival.
The centre-back has the qualities to be a big success with his physical attributes, and he’s at a stage now where he’s gained plenty of experience. His display in the 1-0 Carabao Cup defeat to Manchester City last month highlighted his ability.
If he can finish the final few games of the season strongly, it will be interesting to see if he’s at the front of the list of defenders for the new manager to try. Of course, right now there is no word on who will replace interim boss Ryan Mason ahead of next campaign.
Here are some Spurs fans discussing Dier’s comments:
Not falling for this again, get rid of him this summer

Tell yourself something enough times and you actually start to believe it.

Every game this guy plays a sloppy pass that leads to a potential goal scoring opportunity for the other team. Every game! He's been better recently but he's still prone to way too many brainfarts

A good place is not caught under a cross or trying to hit 50 yard diagonals….know your limits.
